BEYOND PRACTICE: A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO REBUILDING SPAIN
Summer Program 2019 / Syracuse Abroad
Beyond Practice. A holistic approach to rebuilding Spain was a 5-week travel program that sought to analyze the impact at all levels of the economic crisis that hit Spain from 2006 to 2016 and its potential as a triggering agent for a paradigm shift in emerging architectural production methods throughout the country. The program focused on how a new generation of Spanish architects had fully assumed that we cannot solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them and why, as a consequence, during the last years, they have been rebuilding and testing alternative methodologies to return to the discipline its capacity for critical dialogue.
Participants became privileged spectators to this new productive spectrum that, anchored in a long building tradition, was and continues to be intensified through new experimental and inclusive approaches that aim to reframe and expand our perception of the built environment.
